The largest mammal in the world weighs 150 tons and is an average length of 25 meters. This enormous creature is known as the blue whale. Today, the blue whale can be found in every ocean and also by the Norwegian coast. They mate in tropical climates, and in the summer time they move to the arctic regions to search for food.

          * cruises 8-10 knots
          * surges up to 20 knots for ten minutes
Color:
         * bluish gray with grayish patches on back and sides

  • females up to 36 tons

  • dive lasts up to 90 minutes
  • dives may be as deep as 3,200 feet

Blow:

  • single blow hole located to the left of the midline, far forward on the head

Eating Habits:

  • mainly octopus and squid
  • also eats sharks and other fish
